This latest anti-gay video will make you weep

You ever notice how those who create anti-gay music videos are in most need of a stereotypical gay music lover and coordinator? Presented with MANY apologies:

Mark Regnerus, University Of Texas Professor, Wades Further Into Gay Marriage Debate - Slowly but surely, the truth is coming back to haunt the creator of that descredited anti-gay parenting study. A lot of us lgbt bloggers knew that he was lying in regards to his "objectivity." A big part of this story are the mysterious talking points given to Regenerus in order to bypass crucial questions regarding his study. No one will say where they came from:

As The American Independent reported last month, the Witherspoon Institute, the conservative think tank that funded the bulk of the New Family Structures Study, pushed to have the study’s results out before “major decisions of the Supreme Court,” according to documents obtained through a public records request. Among those documents – which are still being released in chunks – is a document titled “Mark Regnerus Media Training,” which encouraged the professor to focus on the fact that his study was a large, random, nationally representative study, unlike the majority of the existing research on gay parenting. He was told to avoid politics.

The origin of this training document, which is undated, is unknown. David Ochsner, director of public affairs at the University of Texas’ College of Liberal Arts, said he did not believe the guidelines were issued by UT, and he said Regnerus told him he could not remember where they came from. Witherspoon Institute President Luis Tellez said they were not issued by the Witherspoon Institute.

Regnerus’ “key points to make” included:
  • This study does not ascribe a cause to the effects, it simply reports the data.
  • For many years, gay advocates have claimed that there are no meaningful differences between children of same-sex couples and other children. This study shows this not to be true.
  • Young adults raised in a same-sex household are [list key findings such as more likely to have considered suicide, etc.].

Misleading video latest attempt to undermine GLSEN's 'Day of Silence'

Don't be fooled by the following video. It's not telling the truth:

GLSEN's Day of Silence is coming soon (April 19), which means that while this day will cast attention to the problems lgbt students face in America's school, the religious right will yet again try to undermine it.

Religious right groups used to push what they call "A Day of Truth" in which they encouraged students to tell the so-called truth about homosexuality. Then they advised parents to take their children out of school during the "Day of Silence."

Now they are pushing this thing called "Day of Dialogue." Now I really don't understand anything about this new thing. I personally think that they don't either. What exactly is the purpose of the "Day of Dialogue." Focus on the Family says:

The Day of Dialogue gives you, as a student, the opportunity to express the true model presented by Jesus Christ in the Bible—who didn’t back away from speaking truth, but neither held back in pouring out His incredible, compassionate love for hurting and vulnerable people. His example calls us to stand up for those being harmed or bullied while offering the light of what God’s Word says.

Sounds like to me that the "Day of Dialogue" is the "Day of Truth" presented in a more innocuous manner, which does nothing to combat the problem of bullying, except for attempting to cast those who oppose "Day of Silence" as the victims of bullying.

In that way, while it doesn't undermine the "Day of Silence," it undermines the problem of bullying. Certainly, no child should be bullied because of anything, whether it be personal beliefs or sexual orientation. But when it comes to lgbt students, we have seen how the problem of bullying can lead to negative outcomes, such as suicide.  "Day of Silence" was created to combat this problem But what problem was "Day of Truth" created to combat?

The idea that GLSEN's "Day of Silence" could help lgbts be more accepted in high schools?
