James Dobson gets super creepy (and inaccurate) about transgender community

James Dobson enjoys getting super creepy about trans community

Supposed kingmaker of the 2004 presidential election James Dobson recently crawled out of his crypt of irrelevancy to attack President Obama for his trans-inclusive directive to America's schools.

But Dobson doesn't stop with simply attacking the president. He throws all sorts of wild, inaccurate stuff about the transgender community which, honestly speaking, should make people wonder where his head is at, so to speak.

From Right Wing Watch:

Obama, acting like a king, is wielding dictatorial powers never envisioned in the law. He is determined to change the way males and females relate to one another, and worse, how children perceive themselves. If you are a married man with any gumption, surely you will defend your wife’s privacy and security in restroom facilities. Would you remain passive after knowing that a strange-looking man, dressed like a woman, has been peering over toilet cubicles to watch your wife in a private moment? What should be done to the pervert who was using mirrors to watch women and girls in their stalls? If you are a dad, I pray you will protect your little girls from men who walk in unannounced, unzip their pants and urinate in front of them. If this had happened 100 years ago, someone might have been shot. Where is today’s manhood? God help us!

It's not just the fact that Dobson is inaccurate about women's restrooms having urinal stalls, or the idea that transgender women would peek at women on the toilet.

It's like he enjoys talking about it. Either he is enjoys grossing people out with these lies or is he opening a window into his mind? Maybe it's just me but the way anti-gay leader James Dobson talked about transgender men and women using public restrooms crossed the line from issuing warnings to a perverted enjoyment of shocking people.

I'm not a psychologist, so I won't make assumptions except for one.

Perhaps we should fear folks like James Dobson with such vivid imaginations instead of transgender men and women who are only seeking to use the restroom without any attention.

Trump-Aligned Pastor: Trans Rights Will Provoke 'The Judgment Of God' - Why should we believe these people when they can't decide what will get God really angry at this country. Is it abortion? Gay rights? Gay marriage in general? Gun control?  You think maybe these folks are "putting us on?"

Conservative talking head - Gays are trying to use Disney to 'recruit' children

When everything else fails, the religious right always claim this.

It never fails. In almost every issue, the religious right turns to the one fear tactic guaranteed to turns heads:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the activist group GLAAD gave Disney, Paramount and Warner Bros. failing grades as a GLAAD spokeswoman was quoted as saying "Hollywood's films lag far behind any other form of media when it comes to portrayals of LGBT characters."

Matt Philbin with the Media Research Center tells OneNewsNow that GLAAD is working hard to normalize homosexuality – and they know where to go to do it.

"What happens on the screen has a huge impact," he explains, "and that's why the lefties in Hollywood and the radical groups are going to keep pushing and keep pushing: they understand the power they have."
By pressuring Disney, Philbin argues that GLAAD is targeting kids.

"They're talking about Disney's bread and butter," notes the MRC spokesman. "They're talking about kids' movies and they're talking about normalizing homosexuality for children as young as 3 or 4 years old in such a way that, yes, this becomes something they see on the screen, something that they are told by the media is normal, everyday behavior."

Philbin is way behind. Putting his phraseology aside, children are already aware of lgbts. They have friends, neighbors, and family members who ae lgbts. In some households, they are even being raised by lgbts.  Odds are they see lgbts as normal because that's exactly what we are. We don't need Disney to do the job that is already being done.

And there is nothing any type of hand wringing can do about it.

Vermont becomes fifth state to ban 'gay conversion therapy' for minors

Vermont Governor. Peter Shumlin
While our minds have been concentrating on other things, something positive happened in Vermont Wednesday.

From the office of Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin:

At a time when some states are working to erode hard-fought advances in civil rights for the LGBT community, Gov. Peter Shumlin today signed a law to advance them in Vermont by banning the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy. The new law bans the practice of seeking to change a minor's sexual orientation or gender identity in the State of Vermont.

"It's absurd to think that being gay or transgender is something to be cured of," Gov. Shumlin said. "Our country has come a long way in a short period of time in recognizing the civil rights of members of the LGBT community, and I am so proud that Vermont has taken a leadership role at every step of the way. At a time when the rights of LGBT individuals are under attack in other parts of the country, Vermont will continue to stand up to hatred and bigotry and show the rest of the country what tolerance, understanding, and common humanity look like."

Conversion therapy has been widely discredited by the scientific community. A 2015 report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) "found that variations in sexual orientation and gender identity are normal, and that conversion therapies or other efforts to change sexual orientation or gender identity are not effective, are harmful, and are not appropriate therapeutic practices."
Vermont joins California, Illinois, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington, D.C. in enacting a law to ban conversion therapy. Earlier this year, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced regulations to ban public and private insurers from covering the practice.

The ban on conversion therapy takes effect July 1, 2016.

Five states down. Forty-five more to go. And we will make it a reality.

'Silly, pathetic black pastors grandstand for HB2' & other Thur. midday news briefs

Black pastors rally support for HB2, saying LGBT rights are not civil rights - As a black gay man, i always find it funny and sad when some of my own people deny their own. They seem to think that HB2 affects white gays. Black lgbts will also be affected. Of course they know this but will ignore it, just as they ignore the presence of black lgbts in the civil rights movement. It wasn't just heterosexual African-Americans being lynched, forced to live under segregation and having their dignity degraded. Nor was it solely heterosexual African-Americans who fought against such treatment. Bayard Rustin, James Baldwin, Lorraine Hansberry, and so many black gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people stood up and fought for equality.

Also, I find it very hypocritical for some of these black pastor to try and take the mantle of holiness. The group of pastors featured in the video (included in the link above) includes Patrick Wooden, a man who once said that gay men are forced to wear diapers because we have too much sex and won't wait for our "surgeries" to heal:

The time a transgender woman TOTALLY SHUT DOWN a Family Research Council spokesperson

How in the heck did I miss THIS clip?

No doubt the Family Research Council will be happy as a pig in mud over the news that 11 states filed a lawsuit against the Obama Administration over the president's trans-inclusive directive.

Allow me to poke some holes in their sails courtesy of a clip from an episode earlier this year (March) of the Dr. Drew talk show. The host and his guests were discussing HB2 and transgender pilot Jessica Taylor did what a lot of us need to do. Seeing her chance, she called out Peter Sprigg of the anti-lgbt hate group the Family Research Council about the lies people like him tell about the transgender community, especially when it comes to public restrooms.

What you are about to see is what happens when members of anti-lgbt groups face the people they demonize. To put it lightly, "Jessica handed Sprigg his ass"

'KKK exploiting anti-transgender fear to recruit' & other Wed. midday news briefs'

Nyle DiMarco
KKK Is Using Trans Bathroom Controversy To Recruit New Members - To those who claim that you cannot compare even the basics of the transgender movement (or the lgbt movement in gender) for equality to the African-American civil rights movement, isn't it a SHAME that the enemies of equality don't share that same point of view . . .

Or if that example is too intense, then just think of the Shakespeare play "Othello" and guess who is Othello and who is Iago.

Anti-gay groups create false sense of Christian entitlement

There are times that we concentrate so much on how anti-lgbt groups exploit fear that we fail to mention how they play on their followers' sense of entitlement. As seen by a passage from a fundraising letter by American Family Association president Tim Wildmon, anti-lgbt groups, playing on religious egos is a huge part of their unfortunate appeal:

Certainly, we have had our national problems, as human institutions always have had and always will have. But America, for most of her history, has held to the Judeo-Christian value system to guide our path of understanding and govern our social morals. We used to teach our children love of country, respect for authority, and the Ten Commandments in school, at home, and in church. Not too long ago, we had reverence for the things of God. Today open sacrilege is the norm, especially in popular culture. We think we can make up our own truth instead of submitting to the truth of Scripture.

If Wildmon was an African-American, I doubt he would be pushing such a false idea of how America was. But this false notion that folks like him worship a "true faith" and that America was built for folks like them while  the rest of us are who don't believe as they do are only here at Wildmon and company's will and pleasure does wonders to sway folks. And it especially hinders their common sense when others affiliated with the American Family Association begin to act not so Christ-like:

'Morality' hypocrites defend Roy Moore's attempt to sidestep SCOTUS marriage equality ruling

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore probably feels like he's always standing alone. But on Saturday, he was anything but, as crowds of people poured out by the judicial building in Montgomery to rally for the popular judge. Three weeks after being suspended from the bench without pay, Roy Moore is fighting the politically motivated charges against him. It all started several months ago, when far-Left extremists filed a complaint with the state's Judicial Inquiry Commission. Why? Because Justice Moore didn't roll over and fall in line after five members of the U.S. Supreme Court forced their definition of marriage on the rest of the country.

That paragraph of  nonsensical jargon is the beginning of the Family Research Council''s defense of disgraced Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore. Moore was suspended for attempting to defy the SCOTUS ruling legalizing marriage equality.

Moore is no martyr just as the Family Research Council is not a Christian organization. Unlike a certain backwoods Kentucky clerk, Moore cannot plead ignorance of our laws. He was fully aware that a SCOTUS decision meant that marriage equality. It's rather pitiful how he attempts to play the victim, aided by groups like the Family Research Council and a recent rally, seen on video below:

Call us demonic all you want. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that lgbts fought and won marriage equality the right way. We went through the proper channels, defended our case, and ultimately proved to SCOTUS that we deserve the right to marry.

As a judge, Moore know of the process but choose to ignore it because of his own desires. Pretty it up all you want to. The fact of the matter is that Moore deserved to be suspended. If he receives worse, he deserves that too.

Boycott Target movement just entered the silly season

I don't care what public front they may put up, I am guessing creators of the Boycott Target movement, the anti-lgbt group the American Family Association, aren't exactly happy right now.

From The Huffington Post:

The ongoing right-wing backlash over Target’s pledge to allow transgender patrons and staff members to use the restrooms which correspond with their gender identity isn’t dying down anytime soon. Faith2Action, a group which calls itself a “pro-active launching pad for the pro-family movement,” now hopes to go a step further by organizing a “Don’t Target Our Daughters Day” protest just four days before the retail giant’s shareholders meeting on June 8. Organizers want to designate Saturday, June 4 to be a “moment to stand together” and warn shoppers about Target’s policy allowing “predators and sex offenders” into women’s restrooms and fitting rooms by protesting outside stores.

You'll notice that Faith2Action says nothing about "our sons" being "targeted." That of course is deliberate because the group is a throwback to the days when anti-lgbt groups used shocking, albeit false, videos to demonize the lgbt community. Videos like the following which announces this event:

Now I know you are asking who would make such an insane video like this.

'When the 'moral right' attacked a transgender kindergartner' & other Mon midday news briefs

Special look - The main thing fueling this hysteria over transgender men, women, and children is how the right is presenting the issue. I took two articles from late April to demonstrate what I mean. They both involve a five-year-old transgender child. One is from the Federalist, a publication affiliated with the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation has been working steadily to push back against all forms of lgbt equality. The other article is from the progressive Think Progress detailing the entire situation, including how The Heritage Foundation is exploiting the situation:

Religious right defends security guard arrested for assaulting transgender woman

The situation last week involving a security guard being arrested for assaulting a transgender woman who was merely attempting to use the restroom  brought much needed attention to the prejudices and discrimination transgender men and women face.

And leave it to the false news source One News Now (owned and run by the anti-lgbt hate group the American Family Association) to accentuate this point.

How the incident was reported by a legitimate news source, NBC Washington, Channel 4:

D.C. Police have charged a security guard at a Giant grocery store with simple assault after sources say she had a confrontation with a transgender woman who was trying to use the women's restroom.
The guard, who has not been identified, is a special police officer at a Giant store near Third and H streets in northeast D.C.Police confirmed they had arrested her there earlier today for a confrontation in the store, though they did not reveal details of the arrest. News4 spoke with Ebony Belcher, the transgender woman who said she was assaulted by the officer. Belcher, 32, said the woman came into the restroom and told her to get out. She said the officer put her hand on her shoulder and arm, grabbed her and tried to march her out of the store.
This is how  One News Now reported the incident with a few nauseating changes  including mis-gendering the woman and then falsely labeling her as a transgender man. The article in this publication was copied almost word for word from another right-wing publication, LifeSiteNews:

Law enforcement officers in the nation’s capital arrested a female security guard and threatened her with “hate crime” charges for removing a [biological] man — who claims to be a woman — from a women’s restroom.

The woman security guard — whose name was not released — reportedly asked a “transgender” man on Monday at around noon to leave a restroom located inside a Giant store that was designated for women only.

After refusing to comply with the security guard, the 32-year-old male, who identifies himself as “Ebony” Belcher, made a scene, which ended in the guard escorting the man from the Washington, D.C. retail store.

Belcher recounted that the female security guard insisted that his behavior of frequenting the women’s facilities was not allowed by the law in the nation’s capital — at least, yet.

. . .
Tony Pixley — an eyewitness of the incident — claimed that the dispute between the female security guard and the transgender man evolved into a physical altercation inside the store
Then the article adds this bit, which is in accordance to the transgender women = predators talking point the religious right have been pushing:

Many eyewitnesses did not see things the way LGBT activists and the local police department interpreted the event.

One customer who was shopping at Giant at the time of the incident bluntly expressed that the security guard was simply doing her job and protecting the privacy and safety of women and girls using the store’s restroom — as any normal person in her position would do.

“You got a penis — go to the men's bathroom,” Giant shopper Deana Chisholm reasoned when questioned about the incident by the WJLA television station. “If you are born a woman, go to the women's bathroom — period."

Not only does the right substitute truth for spin, but they obviously can't count. Since when one person is "many eyewitnesses?"

Family Research Council caught lying about Charlotte Observer column on HB2

FRC distorts a quote to scare its supporters.

Just a simple lesson in lying brought to you by the Family Research Council.

What is claimed by the Family Research Council:

In a stunning column this week, the (Charlotte Observer) argues that “Girls must overcome ‘discomfort’ of seeing ‘male genitalia’ in locker rooms.”

What The Charlotte Observer actually said:

Yes, the thought of male genitalia in girls’ locker rooms – and vice versa – might be distressing to some. But the battle for equality has always been in part about overcoming discomfort – with blacks sharing facilities, with gays sharing marriage – then realizing that it was not nearly so awful as some people imagined.

There is nothing in The Charlotte Observer editorial about girls seeing male genitalia. And the passage is definitely taken out of context. Read the column for yourself  and decide.

Some might argue that what The Charlotte Observer actually said is equally distressing. I say if that's the case, then why did FRC feel the need to totally alter the passage ?

Family Research Council, Wall Street Journal pushing biased science against trans community

Paul McHugh, the religious right's newest model of junk science.

Those who  read this blog know that I have kept a history of the many times anti-lgbt groups have relied on either junk or cherry-picked science to denigrate the lgbt community and refer to us as diseased "others" out to destroy American society.

Sometimes, other conservative entities aid in this bad endeavor. Today, it's the Wall Street Journal aiding the Family Research Council with its defense of "bathroom bills."  The following is part of an email sent by FRC denigrating Obama because his recent directive to allow transgender students to use bathrooms in accordance to their desired gender identity and also because of the Justice Department's lawsuit against North Carolina for passing that awful HB2 law:

Obviously, the president is trying to move the ball as far down the field for his extreme agenda as he can before leaving office. But if he expected resistance, he certainly didn’t plan for it. “Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has raised the possibility that his state may forfeit its $10 billion of annual federal funding for its schools,” the Wall Street Journal pointed out
“We hope Texas follows through and is joined by other states. There is more at stake here than sexual identity, not least the self-identity of the United States. The Obama administration’s preoccupation with sex, whether in sophomore year or the fourth grade, raises questions about whether the federal bureaucracies know at all what they are doing on anything resembling the merits… Two years ago on these pages we published ‘Transgender Surgery Isn’t the Solution’ by Johns Hopkins psychiatrist Paul McHugh. In one of the most widely-read pieces we have published, Dr. McHugh pointed out that the idea of gender as subjective ‘personal truth’ has no basis in science. What studies have been done on gender preference also suggest that the belief that these choices result in positive psychological outcomes isn’t proven -- especially for students in grade school. Suddenly, though, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch has solved the mysteries of gender confusion -- for the whole country.”

Paul McHugh is not a name known by many. Recently though, the religious right and other conservatives have been passing his anti-transgender information as accurate. Of course McHugh has credibility because he is affiliated with John Hops University. However, his information is still flawed because he is biased.

D.C. guard arrested for assault after attempting to prevent transgender woman from using the restroom.

For all of the fear mongering about what may happen if transgender men and women are allowed to use the bathroom of their desired gender identity, it's fast becoming a reality that the folks everyone should fear are those who are trying to protect us from this non-important reality.

First we have all of these crazy people going into Target stores scaring customers with their unsolicited and very loud John the Baptist on crack sermons.

And now this:

Belcher said she suffers from Parkinson's disease and almost fell while the officer was shoving her.

I'm sure we will be hearing more details about this and the story could change. But for now, go to the link of the article and view the transgender woman in the middle of the controversy. Then ask yourself something.

Does she look anywhere near a 6-foot, 5-inch, 250-pound man that the religious right semantically conjures up when they malign our transgender sisters?

It seems to me that America doesn't need to be protected from transgender men and women using public restrooms. We need to be protected from the folks who obsess about transgender men and women using public restrooms.

Media shortchanging transgender community in 'bathroom bills' debate

The above video of Hope Tyler, the mother of a transgender child being interviewed on CNN, is easily one of the best things I've seen in a while.

 From Raw Story:

Speaking to CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on New Day, Tyler said that her daughter, Kylie, began transitioning to a male named Kai at the age of 12 after she became paralyzed.

“It was a wonderful relief because we finally figured out what was going on,” Tyler recalled. “Ever since she was little, she was dressing in tomboy clothes… And then at the age of 9, 10, and 11 anxiety kicked in horribly. And we would go to the [emergency room] and they couldn’t figure out what was causing the anxiety.”

“Conversion disorder is when your body shuts down physically and you become paralyzed in your arms or your legs,” she noted. “And Kylie, at the time, was in a wheelchair for five months.”

Tyler said that she began researching the condition and discovered that her son’s transition to a male was not simply a matter of psychology.

“Girls have XX chromosomes, boys have XY chromosomes,” the mother pointed out. “The gene that determines your sex is called the SRY gene. And when the little piece of that Y gene falls off, that’s what causes a transgender boy. When there is no X involved in the chromosome, that’s what causes a transgender girl.” “Another thing people need to know is that there’s a whole series of XXY, YYX,” she continued. “These are people that have breasts with male genitalia. There’s also people that have both genitalia. These children need to be recognized.”

Ever since this nonsense about "bathroom bills" began, the media has featured NC Gov. Pat McCrory defending his awful anti-lgbt law,  members of anti-lgbt groups such as the Alliance Defending Freedom, or pundits throwing out ugly missives about "male predators invading women's locker rooms and compromising their safety."

In many cases, they've allowed transgender men and women to be misgendered or semantically described as pedophiles without bothering to correct these grievances.

But they have rarely featured any medical professionals dealing with the issues of the transgender community or someone who can properly articulate the situation of being transgender.

To be honest, the news media have been very slack in bringing solid knowledge to the issue of "bathroom bills" and the transgender community in general. Instead, in a way author Paddy Chayefsky wrote about in his screenplay, Network, they seem to be intent on  "articulating" people's ignorance and fears. Who knows? Maybe they feel that dry (but accurate) statements from medical professionals are less entertaining than creepy (but false) anecdotes about little girls being trapped in lonely bathrooms with a 450 pound linebacker wearing a mini-skirt complete with a thick layer of drool coating his five o'clock shadow.

Maybe they fear that if they correct Sen. Ted Cruz when he goes on a paranoid tangent about "grown men sharing bathrooms with little girls," he may cut off their access to him on other issues.

Whatever the case may be, rather than bringing solid knowledge and understanding to this issue, some members of the media  given too much time to overpaid pundits who are too eager to build a reputation with which to sell their next book. anti-lgbt think tanks whom they know will afford them a good, albeit inaccurate soundbite, or elected officials  more concerned with being re-elected or gaining higher office than fairness.

None of these entities mentioned have credible background of research in this issue or a stake in ending this drama.

I guess what I am saying is that the fact that Miss. Tyler dropped so much knowledge about the transgender community was wonderful. But it's sad that it's taken this long for anyone to articulate such an intelligent point of view. And if the media was more concerned about gaining the truth rather than exploiting the situation, it wouldn't have taken this long.

Obama's pro-transgender directive - How to defeat the backlash sure to follow

Vigorous truth-telling can successfully combat anti-transgender lies.

Obama Administration Warns Schools To Allow Transgender Access To Bathrooms - Just in case you haven't heard about this wonderful news (and I am sure we have all heard about it.) BUT, you know what . . .

Texas Superintendent Says Obama Directive on Transgender Students 'Going Straight to the Shredder' - There will be a backlash coming. It's already started.  And there will be more to come. While Trump - if he is the GOP presidential nominee - can't necessarily use Obama's directive against the Dem nominee, the religious right sure as hell will. And based on this article, they will have allies. Now is not the time to do what the lgbt community always seems to do when we get earth shaking positive developments, i.e. hug and weep about how monumental it is while being sitting targets for a religious right backlash which knocks us back to square one. We need to fight for this with all we have.

One way is to vigorously and LOUDLY educate against the myths and the lies. There is no reason why we shouldn't demand that a more rounded view of the transgender community and issues be presented by the news media  (local and national, even Fox News). No more pundits who spew on the fly. And above all, there is nothing wrong with writing letters to the editor of your local newspapers:

Due to term limits, Oklahoma legislator and enemy of lgbt equality Sally Kern recently retired. Gone the way of Jesse Helms, Jerry Falwell, and so many others who have failed to keep us locked in the closet. I don't care how she raged. NC school board rethinking pepper spray issue, member apologizes for HB2 comment

No pepper spray for NC students

It's wonderful what a little attention will do to change the minds of the ignorant.

From Buzzfeed:

A school board in North Carolina, which voted to adopt a policy allowing pepper sprays in high schools, is now “rethinking” its decision after feedback from the community, a board member told BuzzFeed News Wednesday. The Rowan-Salisbury Board voted Monday to amend its policy prohibiting high school students from carrying pepper sprays on campus, the Salisbury Post first reported. However, Chuck Hughes, a board member who voted in favor of the policy, told BuzzFeed News he will personally vote against it in the next session on May 23, after he realized that the “cons far outweighed the pros.” He also said that “many board members” he had talked to “will think this over again.”

Hughes also apologized for linking this issue to the controversial HB2 and the transgender community:

During Monday’s session, Hughes was reported to come out in favor of allowing sprays citing HB2 concerns. According to the Salisbury Post, he said, “Depending on how the courts rule on the bathroom issues, it may be a pretty valuable tool to have on the female students if they go to the bathroom, not knowing who may come in.”Hughes backtracked Wednesday, telling BuzzFeed News that his comments were “inappropriate” and that they had nothing do with the LGBT community.

“I was not thinking about the LGBT issue,” Hughes said. “Perverts and pedophiles taking advantage of this law in bathrooms was my major concern.”

Have it your way, as long as you apologized. Score one for the side of decency and common sense. Now if Gov. McCrory would get his head out of his tookis, we can really have a victory.

Transcript:

The truth is, from what we understand in history, there hasn’t been one nation in the history of the world that has openly embraced homosexual lifestyle and begun to practice the homosexual lifestyle that has endured. Every one of them has gone down. Every single one of them. Once rampant homosexuality takes place, then people don’t take care of their children, they aren’t concerned about the next generation, they’re concerned about physical pleasure and the activities surrounding this lifestyle, they aren’t planning for the future and the country goes to pot. Right now it it’s kind of in the balance, it’s kind of interesting, but the fact that the European Union and the U.S. is trying to impose this lifestyle on a little country like Georgia that wants to stay orthodox is incredible. You look at the Book of Revelation and it says, ‘Mystery Mother of Harlots, you have made the world drunk with the wine of your fornication.’ And you say, who is that ‘mystery woman?’ Well, more and more, this great nation of ours, the U.S. of A, is becoming — to take on that role. I don’t know if we intend to but that’s what’s happening. We’re making the nations drunk with the wine of our fornication and God brings judgment on a country that does that.

#BoycottTarget hashtag is a place of complete transphobic lunacy

As much as I hate to jump in the middle of wonderful mood given by Attorney General Loretta Lynch's wonderful speech detailing the lawsuit against NC, I should remind folks who we are fighting.

If the Justice Department has any problem proving animus regarding NC's anti-lgbt HB2, I would recommend they go over to twitter and check out the #BoycottTarget hastag.

This hashtag, started by the anti-lgbt hate group American Family Association in response to Target's trans-inclusive policy (and the petition which is a part of the campaign) have been pretty successful. However, it only demonstrates how many ignorant and hateful folks there are in the twitterverse with too much time on their hands.

AFA will have you believe that it and its supporters of the #BoycottTarget movement are decent, Christian folk who are merely concerned with the safety of women and children. They will have you to believe that there is neither hate nor malice in their hearts.

Some of these folks have a warped idea of decency. I grabbed just a few of the many tweet to demonstrate what I mean. Before you read any of these, I should caution that you are entering rough territory. I specifically took pics of these tweets just in case the parties involved chose to block me in the future. Also, I took the liberty to blot out the names of some of these folks. The point of this post is not to encourage anyone to contact these folks, but to demonstrate just how sadly gullible they are and how vile the American Family Association is for deliberately "rattling their cages" with lies about the transgender community.

First, let's start with the American Family Association:

The next series are various attacks on lgbts, President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, and even the First Lady. It's not pretty:

US Attorney General Lynch affirms dignity of transgender community, announces lawsuit against NC over anti-lgbt law

I'm in agreement with many of my lgbt brothers and sisters right now. There are no words good enough to express what we have just heard from US Attorney General Loretta Lynch. She just announced that the Justice Department will be suing North Carolina over its anti-lgbt law.

But her speech announcing the lawsuit will be remembered as one of the greatest, most legendary speeches in not only lgbt history but United States history. I highlighted a part I felt was the most pivotal (when she spoke to the transgender community.):

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch
Good afternoon and thank you all for being here.  Today, I’m joined by [Vanita] Gupta, head of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice.  We are here to announce a significant law enforcement action regarding North Carolina’s Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, also known as House Bill 2.
The North Carolina General Assembly passed House Bill 2 in special session on March 23 of this year.  The bill sought to strike down an anti-discrimination provision in a recently-passed Charlotte, North Carolina, ordinance, as well as to require transgender people in public agencies to use the bathrooms consistent with their sex as noted at birth, rather than the bathrooms that fit their gender identity.  The bill was signed into law that same day.  In so doing, the legislature and the governor placed North Carolina in direct opposition to federal laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex and gender identity.  More to the point, they created state-sponsored discrimination against transgender individuals, who simply seek to engage in the most private of functions in a place of safety and security – a right taken for granted by most of us.
Last week, our Civil Rights Division notified state officials that House Bill 2 violates federal civil rights laws.  We asked that they certify by the end of the day today that they would not comply with or implement House Bill 2’s restriction on restroom access.  An extension was requested by North Carolina and was under active consideration.  But instead of replying to our offer or providing a certification, this morning, the state of North Carolina and its governor chose to respond by suing the Department of Justice.  As a result of their decisions, we are now moving forward.

'NC sues Justice Dept, ACLU & gay couple sues Mississippi' & other Mon. midday news briefs

North Carolina Sues Justice Dept. Over Challenge To Bathroom Law - With all of the "crotch-grabbing" machismo and bluster that GOP official threw at the Justice Department, I'm not surprised over this next step. If McCrory and company wants to do this the hard way, then I'm all for it. They gonna learn.

Gay couple files lawsuit against Miss. religious freedom law - Meanwhile, WE can do some suing of our own.

Now Trump Is Just Openly Attacking The Religious Right - This does NOT mean that I am defending the religious right. I'm merely drawing attention to a stupid man who has no control and will lash out like a baby. But he is the presumptive GOP nominee.

Here We Go Again: Roy Moore Suspended For Defying Gay Marriage Rulings - And if he loses his gig - like the last time - the voters will probably put him back in again so he can act like a fool again. Then the process will repeat itself. Works for me. I love merry-go-rounds until folks pushing the buttons get tired.

NC Gov McCrory continues to bury himself & HB2 deeper in the hole

Is it just me or does it seem also to you that the more NC Gov. Pat McCrory continues to defend the anti-lgbt HB2 law, the deeper he digs himself into the hole. He was on Fox News today and Chris Wallace practically plastered him on the discrepancies of the law This has been happening in the wake of a Department of Justice letter telling McCrory that HB2 was illegal by federal law. Thank to the Human Rights Campaign, we see just how bad McCrory's lies were in the interview.

'Real Time with Bill Maher' destroys 'bathroom predator' lie

So many wonderful morsels from Real Time With Bill Maher talking about the "bathroom predator" myth. For my money, it's when Dan Savage made the connection between anti-transgender lies now and the "gay men want to molest children" lie repeated numerous times by foes against lgbt equality.

It's historical perspective which I have been screaming for people to talk about.

'Tacky lawsuit attempts to attack transgender child' & other Fri. midday news briefs

Transgender children should have the same rights as all children.

Lawsuit Claims A Transgender Girl Is Ruining Her Classmates’ Lives By Peeing - Oh good grief. Read Zack Ford's article on ThinkProgress. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to shift the narrative. Apparently us talking about the entire transgender community, especially the children is causing the other side to panic. So they are throwing all sorts of junk at the wall to make it seem that treating transgender children fairly will endanger other children. Expect Breibart, The Daily Signal, and the rest to conveniently give this mess one-sided play.
